On September 20th, 2024, OSDI successfully organized a General Medical Camp in Village Hussain Orki, in collaboration with the District Health Department, Lasbela Welfare Trust, and the People's Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI). This initiative was part of a coordinated effort between key health organizations working together to address primary healthcare needs in the region. The camp provided essential medical services to 179 residents, including 86 males and 93 females from Hussain Orki and nearby areas. Lasbela Welfare Trust conducted health screenings, PPHI managed medical testing, and a health and hygiene awareness session was held for the community.
A health survey conducted before the camp revealed widespread medical concerns in the area, particularly respiratory infections, diarrhea, skin conditions, and allergies. These issues were exacerbated by financial challenges, limited health knowledge, and inadequate access to medical facilities. The remote location of healthcare centers further delayed timely treatment for residents.
Respiratory Tract Infections (RTI) were the most prevalent condition, affecting 39.66% of the patients, followed by skin diseases at 15.64%, and Gastrointestinal (GIT) issues at 12.29%. Other conditions, accounting for 19.55%, included a range of less common ailments. Gynecological (7.26%) and musculoskeletal (3.91%) issues were also reported.

Urea Fertilizer and Weedicide Distribution to ADP Phase I Beneficiaries
On February 12, 2024, the field team took proactive measures in anticipation of expected rainfall. The team distributed urea fertilizers and weedicide spray among the project beneficiaries of Agriculture Development Project (ADP) Phase I, aiming to optimize crop growth and yield potential.
During a previous visit in January, our field staff closely monitored the growth of wheat crops in the area. It was observed that the growth of the wheat crops had been notably sluggish, primarily due to the persistent absence of rainfall. This deficiency in precipitation significantly impacted the development of the crops, posing a challenge to the anticipated agricultural yield.
In response to this observation, our team devised a plan to leverage the potential rainfall. Upon its occurrence, they are prepared to implement the application of urea fertilizers and the spray of weedicides.
After rainfall, the growth of weeds and unwanted plants accelerates alongside major crops. These unwanted plants consume the majority of the nutrients provided for wheat crops. To overcome this problem and save the majority of the nutrients for the desired plant, herbicides are employed. Weedicide is promptly applied to eliminate unwanted plants. This action ensures that nitrogen nutrients become available for the wheat.
Urea fertilizer, composed of nitrogen at 46%, serves as a vital nutrient for wheat crops, promoting robust growth and enhancing yield potential.
Rainfall plays a crucial role in facilitating the absorption of urea by the wheat plants, facilitating the uptake of nitrogen, essential for their growth and development.
It was suggested to beneficiaries to apply weedicide and urea after rainfall. This strategy ensures that the agricultural inputs effectively absorbed by the soil and crops.
Despite these challenges, the proactive measures taken by our field team reflect our commitment to optimizing agricultural practices and enhancing crop yield in Shanay Zangle, Saleem Khan Banda, Umar dair, Hassan Abad, and Morra Banda Villages.

In a proactive move to evaluate the progress of the Agriculture Development Project Phase VIII, the OSDI head office team embarked on a Mid-Term assessment. The team visited fields across four villages to assess the impact of the project. With a total of 25 beneficiaries, the assessment focused on the condition of the wheat crop.
Despite facing a scarcity of nitrogen-based fertilizer in the market during peak times, the wheat crop remains in satisfactory condition. To mitigate this challenge, alternative Nitrophos fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, was distributed to the beneficiaries. This NP fertilizer serves as a viable substitute for urea, supplying essential nutrients for optimal plant growth. Some beneficiaries voiced concerns about the reduced occurrence of cold temperature. Farmers believe that colder temperatures are more favorable for wheat cultivation. However, they remain optimistic, with expectations of a yield exceeding 20 maunds.
As a pilot project, organic fertilizers were provided to five farmers instead of synthetic. Organic compost fertilizer was provided as replacement of DAP, and liquid fish fertilizer was administered as an alternative to Urea. Despite the overall success of these fertilizers, one beneficiary's crop appears less developed. The agronomist emphasized that it is too early to attribute the less development of the crop solely to the organic fertilizer provided.
The assessment took place on February 1st and 2nd, 2024, marking a significant step in monitoring and supporting agricultural development efforts in the region.
