Due to the massive destruction caused by the monsoon floods in 2010, OSDI undertook flood relief operations in mid-August 2010 in District Charsadda in Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa (KPK) and Districts Shikarpur, Khairpur, Matiari and Thatta in Sindh. The relief activities lasted until the 30th of November, 2010 with OSDI's field teams supervising and ensuring the provision of a regular supply of food and non-food items, shelter, clean drinking water, clothes and blankets, sanitation facilities and medical assistance to flood affectees in five districts across Pakistan.
In Sindh alone, PICT took care of approximately 3,555 beneficiaries from 300 households with the assistance of OSDI's field staff.
As part of the relief operation, damage and health assessment surveys were also conducted in order to evaluate damages to infrastructure, livestock, and crops as well as to evaluate affectees' health conditions to ensure that they received proper medical assistance. Based on the health survey findings, a total of 1,197 people were screened and vaccinated against different preventable diseases such as Hepatitis B and Tetanus. Moreover, doctors who visited OSDI camps from time to time examined 1,275 people to ensure their physical well-being. OSDI doctors treated over 500 people in these camps and referred around 13 pregnancy cases to different hospitals as critical in nature.
In 2020, the entire world was severely affected with the sudden out-break of Covid-19 pandemic disease which claimed several lives. As a result, life came to a stand-still because people were kept in forced isolation, public gatherings were minimized, educational institutions closed, many businesses collapsed which led to raise in unemployment, hunger, fear and distress. Daily wage laborers were the worst effected as they could not find any working opportunities to feed their families.
Realizing the dire situation, OSDI collaborated with Asim Jofa to provide Personal Protective Equipment's (PPEs) to the front-line doctors and paramedical staff working tirelessly across the focused districts of Thatta (Sindh), Mardan (KPK) and Lasbela (Baluchistan). Robinhood Army was approached to join hands with us to distribute food and non-food items amongst the vulnerable communities of district Thatta (Sindh), Mardan (KPK) and Lasbela (Baluchistan). Altogether, 1009 families were facilitated with dry ration bags (till 2021).
