Livestock is a significant measure of any rural household's assets. Apart from crop cultivation, livestock rearing is the other major source of livelihood for farmers. Livestock not only serves as a ready source of dairy nutrition for the household but can also be sold off for a sizeable profit, bringing a welcome boost to the beneficiary's income.

Despite these benefits, many farmers in Pakistan are unable to afford livestock due to a lack of access to affordable financing and inadequate savings. OSDI's Livestock Development Project (LDP) facilitates vulnerable beneficiaries in the purchase of livestock animals such as goats, oxen, cows, and buffaloes. By encouraging asset creation through herd increases, livestock serves as a safety net against economic vulnerability.

The program also builds beneficiaries' skills and capacity by raising awareness of better animal rearing practices including feeding, hygiene, de-worming, veterinary care, and shelter maintenance. As part of this approach, OSDI identifies particularly vulnerable families and distributes pregnant goats, providing an immediate boost to household economic standing through milk production and subsequent offspring.

To date, 622 beneficiary families have been financed with 1756 livestock animals

• o Capacity building through training on modern animal rearing techniques
• o Food security through milk production and herd multiplication
